How do we develop deep intercultural understanding while keeping our classes comprehensible? Is it possible to discuss complex issues and topics of social justice using TPRS and other Comprehensible Input strategies? How can we connect our learners to the magic of entering another culture while staying in the target language? Teachers who are new to teaching with Comprehensible Input often wonder how to approach their advanced level classes. Teaching with TPRS novels allows us to engage in a process of Comprehensible Cultural Inquiry that will help learners to make meaningful and personal connections to cultural topics through their own questions. In this workshop we will explore how teaching with comprehensible novels through an Inquiry approach at advanced levels, can provide a pathway not only to increased proficiency, but to the promotion of intercultural understanding, respect and tolerance.
