Laura is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for Harper Creek Community Schools.  She previously served at Lakeview Schools, as Director of Equity and as a Building Principal.  Prior to that she was Director of Assessment and Professional Development for Battle Creek Public Schools, Curriculum Director for Edison Schools at Mid-Michigan Public School Academy in Lansing and as a teacher for Pennfield Schools.  Laura has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in Education, both from Western Michigan University. In addition she has a certificate for Integrating Technology into Instruction from Michigan State University.  Laura has current school administration and teaching certificates in the state of Michigan.  She is data driven, and her passions are social justice, trauma-friendly schools, restorative practices and cognitive coaching.  She is well vested in the Battle Creek Community and is eager to team collaboratively with leaders from all Battle Creek Area schools and community partners to create equity excellence in education for ALL students. She strives to work collaboratively to create a community education system that has a sense of urgency to close the achievement gap. Laura is passionate about continuing to reflect daily and continue to learn more about diversity, equity and inclusion. She is committed to using her personal reflections and ongoing learning to influence organizational procedures and policy in order to create equity and access. Laura and Jason, her husband of 30 years, have three children of their own and many additional children that are called family as a result of serving as host family for six exchange students and foster parents for five amazing youth over the past decade.
